Ready or Not? in Your School
The Ready or Not? Program is typically presented in junior and senior high school Consumer and Family Studies classes such as:
- Teen Choices and Challenges
- Parenting
- Child Psychology
If you would like more information about the program, call or email one of the Ready or Not? Staff. The program is generally presented over a two-week period of time, and is offered in both the fall and spring semesters. Program staff would be more than happy to answer questions, set up an appointment to go over the program, and schedule the program to come to your class.
Participating Teacher Comments
The Ready or Not? Program is an invaluable teaching experience. My students are always excited about the “babies” (infant simulators), but return with a different perspective. We have many great discussions and they realize the choices they make now can impact their future forever.
-- Annie Clark, Consumer and Family Studies teacher at Windsor High School
"The Ready or Not? program is a great teaching tool for students to understand and realize the huge responsibilities involved in teen parenting. It is an in-depth and hands-on resource that allows students to be interactive and truly understand the consequences of teenage decisions. I greatly agree that this program is a positive influence in the classroom and teaches a lesson to high school students that will never be forgotten. "
-- Hope Modsitt, Consumer and Family Studies teacher at Roosevelt High in Johnstown
The best thing about Ready or Not? is the students recognize how labor intensive a baby is or can be. The greatest thing we can hear at the end of the unit for the 12,13, 14 year old age group is "I don't want a baby for a long time and then I want to be married."
-- Katherine Hixon, Consumer and Family Studies teacher at Lincoln Junior High in Fort Collins
Students come back after a weekend with the simulator and have a whole new perspective on parenting, not to mention very tired eyes! It gives them a chance to actually experience fatigue, frustration and helplessness instead of an adult warning them about it. In other words they "get it"!
-- Patty Mogorit, Consumer and Family Studies Teacher at Rocky Mountain High in Fort Collins
The Ready or Not program is currently available in Northern Colorado only. With additional funding and infant simulators, Ready or Not? may be able to expand outside this area.
