Hands-on Projects
Welcome Home – Collect items to furnish a refugee apartment and set the apartment up when a family is going to arrive
Christmas Angel Tree – Provide Christmas presents and/or gift cards for LFS refugee, older adults and foster care children
Thanksgiving Baskets – Provide baskets of food either traditional Thanksgiving or culturally appropriate food or baskets for seniors who no longer cook or reside in their own homes.
Back Packs – Provide filled backpacks or school supplies for foster or refugee children which are given to children when they start school in the fall. This is usually a summer project.
Welcome Bags – Provide age appropriate items for foster children to be given to them when they first enter foster care. Lists are provided but generally include healthcare items, cosmetics, blankets, and small gifts or trinkets. The bags can be pillow cases, backpacks or any other type of bag.
New Shirts, New Shoes – Many of our refugees and foster children arrive with a minimum of clothing and often need shoes, coats and other warm clothing. Gifts cards are needed to provide them with correct sized items.
Giving Life to Older Adults – A list of items is provided for a gift basket which is given to LFS older adult clients for their birthdays or other special occasions.
Personal Care Kits – A list of items is provided which make up kits that are given to refugee and foster care clients when they enter LFS programs.
General Collections – LFS also welcomes groups to do drives for health care items (soap, toothpaste, tooth brushes, etc), cleaning supplies (dish soap, laundry detergent, brooms, etc.), gently used linens (towels, twin or double size sheets, etc.), kitchen items (gently used pots and pans, dishes, silverware, etc.) or baby items (diapers, baby wipes, formula, clothing, etc.)
