Foster Care
The LFS Foster Care Program provides skilled and caring substitute families for children who cannot live with their birth families for a number of different reasons. Most children in foster care have been abused or neglected. Foster families provide foster children with a safe, nurturing home and work with LFS staff to address each child's individual needs.
Unaccompanied Refugee Minor (URM) Foster Care
Unaccompanied refugee minors are children under the age of 18 who have been resettled in the United States without a parent or relative to care for them. URM children are placed in LFS licensed foster homes. These foster parents have received special training on the adjustment needs of refugee youth.
